Landscape Ordinances

Model Landscape Ordinances

Weber Basin Water Conservancy District has cooperated with other water and governmental agencies to create a set of sample ordinances that cities can use to promote water efficient landscaping principles. WBWCD will continue to work with its customer cities to adopt ordinances which make sense for all parties and help in achieving the water conservation goals of reducing per capita use 25% by 2030. The model ordinances are available by clicking on the links below:

Some entities in the state of Utah that have adopted water efficiency measures in landscape ordinances include:

Salt Lake City

Sandy City

West Jordan City

West Valley City

South Jordan City

Salt Lake County

If you are considering implementing and adopting a landscape ordinance, these entities have good experience that may save you from making simple mistakes in the process and avoid setbacks others have already had.  Every area and city is unique; however, using others experience to avoid costly mistakes would be wise. Weber Basin Water Conservancy District is also willing to help you develop an ordinance suitable to your city and individual circumstances.
